External Fixation

Circular (Ilizarov-type) and monolateral fixators for fractures, deformity correction, lengthening and reconstruction.

An external fixator holds the bone from outside the skin through wires or pins. Circular frames allow gradual adjustment in several planes, which makes them suited to complex deformity, lengthening and bone transport. Daily pin-site care and regular adjustments are part of treatment, and patients are taught how to do them.

Conditions commonly treated

  • Complex and open fractures
  • Gradual deformity correction
  • Limb lengthening
  • Bone transport for bone defects
  • Infected non-union

When to book a consultation

Persistent pain, a visible deformity, a difference in limb length, a fracture that hasn't healed properly, or a second opinion before surgery.
